First Day

This was it, my first day of college. My dream was finally coming true. I walked into the doors to my first class. I was going to major in music. For as long as I can remember. My parents have supported me the best they could and now is my time to take charge.

I sat down in the second row, wanting to participate in anything I can but not wanting to seem so eager. I waited as the rest of the class piled in. We were a small class, but to get into this class, you had to be really good. So I guess this was a fair amount of people. The professor came in and took a seat at the front of the class.

“Good morning, everyone. My name is Dr. Arnold Beats and I’m going to be your teacher throughout this year. I will be having you partnered up in groups of two. But, you two will have to work together to get your grade. I have you all grouped, here, just let me find the paper.” He clumsily knocked bunches of paper off his desk. Everyone sat laughing until he straightened up.

“When I call your name, please stand up so your partner will know who you are.”

He proceeded to call out name after name until there were only a few people left.

“Jessica Payne and Alex Thompson.”

That was me I stood up and waited until this Alex guy stood up. He was a 6’2 jock looking man with short dark brown hair. This was great, just what I needed, someone who would mess up everything i was working so hard for. I needed someone who was going to take this seriously and he loked more like a Party Hardy fellow.

I waved and he smiled and I sat back down. Once the classroom had settled down, the teacher started talking again.

“This week, I just want you two to get acquainted with each other. Find out what each other’s styles are and become friends. Hope you do well, and I will see you next week for our first session.” With that, he left leaving everyone on the room grouping up and talking.

I walked over to Alex, my new partner, and said hello.

“Hey, so would you maybe like to go talk over some coffee?” This guy doesn’t waste any time.

“Sure, I guess we ca-“

I was being pulled away before I could even finish my sentence. He brought me to, what I guess was his car, and opened the passenger door. I stepped in and he shut the door. Running around the car to his side, he pulled out his cell phone. He sat down and turned to me.

“I think we should probably swap numbers, since we are going to be partners for a while.”

I took his phone and handed him mine. When I opened his, I saw a picture of a girl in a cheerleading uniform, figuring it was probably his girlfriend. Darn, I was kinda hoping he was single. Wait. You can’t have these distractions Jessica.

I put in my number and handed the phone back to him. He took a picture of me and, I him. We drove off and five minutes later, we came to a small little coffee shop. I ordered and I went to grab my money, but he said he’d pay for it. I smiled and politely thanked him.

We got a seat near the back and we made small talk for a little while until he came out with a very good question.
